Nelson Town Council is a body of 24 elected Town Councillors. The Council presently has one part time Officer, the Town Clerk. Through consultations and contact with relevant authorities it endeavours to ensure that Lancashire County Council, Pendle Borough Council, the Lancashire Police Authority and the Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service understand the views and concerns of the residents of Nelson. When given the opportunity, it also participates in consultations with Government Departments and Agencies. The Council meets once a month, usually on the second Wednesday in the month. Meetings, which are open to the public, are held in either The Town Hall, Nelson, or Unity Wellbeing Centre on Vernon Street, commencing at 7 pm
SERVICES
The Council presently provides the following services.
Festive Lights
Nelson Town Council has taken over the responsibility of the festive lights in Nelson. The lights are switched on at the Lancashire Day celebration in November and run until the beginning of January.
CCTV
From 1st December 2016, Nelson Town Council will take responsibility for CCTV in the town. Work has been completed on the single CCTV hub in East Lancashire and a wireless scheme will be utilised.
Play Areas and Multi Use Games Areas
From April 1st 2016 Nelson Town Council will be responsible for 16 play areas and multi use games areas across the town. Many contain items of play equipment, which are regularly inspected to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Faulty or Damaged Play Equipment: If a member of the public notices any faults or problems with the equipment at any of the play areas, please let a Councillor or the Town Clerk know as soon as possible. The Council will then arrange for the item to be removed or repaired.
