Lancashire Day
Published: 28 November 2017
Nelson Town Council would like to thank all those who helped or participated in making our 2017 Lancashire Day event a success, despite the bad weather. On Saturday 25th November thousands of people attended the Annual Lancashire Day Event and Christmas Light Switch On. His Worshipful the Mayor Councillor David Whalley officially opened the event followed by a variety of Acts throughout the day. Nelson Brass Band provided traditional local music followed by Phil Knight & Friends singing Lancashire songs. We had a successful entry to our Town Crier Competition followed by a haunting dance display of life in a Lancashire mill by aboutimedc’s group Cotton. Local band dirty suns gave a live gig and we culminated the event with Britain’s Got Talents stars Mr Zip, Gabz and Ella Shaw and Brooke Layla from the Kids Voice.
“The 2018 Lancashire Day and Christmas Lights switch on was a fabulous family day out for everyone who took part. We had local acts along with guest performers- including, Ella Shaw, Mr Zip and Layla Brooke. It was a proud moment for me as I was given the opportunity to do the countdown for the Christmas lights. Well done 2BR, Steve Watson (town clerk) and all of Nelson Town Councillors who participated.” - Chairman, Cllr. Zafar Ali.
