Published: 03 June 2019

Two Services will be held at the Nelson Cenotaph for the whole of Pendle.

On Thursday 6th of June at 12.00 noon a short service will be held on the actual day plus 75 years.

This is to enable schools to attend, Town Hall staff, and of course anyone who would like to join us lasts about 25 minutes, last post will be played, BBC news of 75 years ago will be read.

SUNDAY 9th JUNE at 2pm for the whole of Pendle, again at the Cenotaph Cross Street Nelson by the Town Hall, a full service of remembrance and commemoration will be held, conducted by the Rev Guy Jamieson.

The Combined Cadet Units will be in attendance, Guest of Honour will be Mrs Christiana Buchanan Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire.

Its hoped we can find some relatives in Pendle who lost someone in the Battle of Normandy from the 6th of June to end of August 1944, the British lost 24,400 during this epic Battle, some of those will have been Pendle men, we have rightly honoured those who fought and survived this particular battle, so its LEST WE FORGET time to concentrate for a little while on those from this area who didn’t come back, I hope you may be able to find a little time to join us.
